What's the difference between English is spoken in Canada and English spoken ( as in a sign in a shop) ?
Other examples Fresh meat delivered daily but Fresh meat is delivered to the restaurant daily. Passive voice formed with appropriate past participle plus suitable form of verb to be. Used without to be in notices, signs on lorries etc, to give information. The meaning is clear, eg a)This shop will get your watch working again. b) We have a good watch repairer working for us and he'll get your watch working. What's the grammar rule for this please? Thank you.
There is no grammar rule for signs on shops and lorries. The owners of the businesses create signs to tell people what they want them to know in as short a space as possible. Can you imagine a sign on a lorrie that says, "Hello, we are Harold's Meats and we deliver beef, pork, chicken and duck to restaurants throughout Toronto"? That would take up more than the side of the van, so brevity is a necessity where signs are concerned. Harold's Meats pretty much says what the business is.
