White Truck Car
Spot painting a car?? PLEASE HELP!!?
So I have a white truck that has a few nicks and scratches. My main question is is it true that white patch up jobs on cars with white paint are less noticeable than other colors on other cars? Also, does anyone know about how much car paint costs? Any specific recomendations for where to buy it at? I live near an auto zone and an oreily's auto parts. Any input is appreciated, thanks!!
White, Silver, and Gray are considered the easiest colors to match, where as Red, Orange, and Black are the hardest.
Also, "noticeable?" that depends on how much prep work you put into it and how much experience you have -- You can get some really nice results if you take your time and do the job right (and spend time blending the new paint with old, that's very crucial) ...
The hardest part will be judging exactly what color you need to match. Depending on the age of the car you can't just go buy the color code, especially if you're spotting on something like a hood or a trunk lid. The Sun's UV rays will have slightly altered the finish and coloring/tint.
Fortunately many body shops (and places that sell paint) can professionally match the color for you using a computer scanner. Sort of a spendy option, but if you want the color to be spot on (no pun intended) it's the most reliable way to go.
As far as price? If you're just spotting, an aerosal (shaker) can should do you just fine. Depending on the color, paint quality, and quantity, this could cost anywhere between 5 to 35 dollars for a small to reasonably sized can. This is not including the cost of supplies needed to prep the surface (multiple grades of sand paper, primer, if needed, and filler, if needed).
I've seen a lot of great spotting done, and I'm actually in the middle of my first attempt. So far, so good.
This type of job is 70% prep work (masking/sanding/grinding), 10% painting, and 20% finishing (rubbing/blending/buffing).

Fifth, if you have a camera on your cell phone or in the car and you aren’t too injured, take some photos of the vehicles and the scene. If you can’t do it right away, do it after you are released from the hospital.
Sixth, if you are hurt, obtain medical treatment. Don’t decline the ambulance or hospital examination to save your insurance company money or to be stoic. Take your valuables out of your car if you can and get checked out at the hospital. If you are not hurt, don’t get treatment you don’t need. However, remember, after an accident, you may feel a rush of adrenaline that causes you to only start feeling symptoms of pain a few hours later. If you have a health plan that requires you to obtain permission first, call them and find out where you are allowed to seek treatment.
