Welcome Neon Light
I just bought a 2000 Plymouth Neon, and the engine has a mind of it's own... more details included...?
I have a 2000 Plymouth Neon LX, 5 speed manual, 174,000 miles, with the 2 liter 4 cylinder 16 valve engine, and it seems to have a mind of it's own. Mainly it has an irregular idle, especially when i push in the clutch and sit at a stop light. It's even worse with the AC on. With the AC on it revs from 1,000 to 2,000 RPM somewhat rhythmically, and with AC off, it wiggles around 1,000, jumping up a little randomly. Today I stopped at a redlight and it stayed at about 2,000 RPM and went up and down a little, that was with the AC off. I don't notice anything really during normal driving and shifting, although it seems to me it could use just a little more low end torque. Also the check engine light is on, which could be about anything, related or unrelated. Air cleaner is spotless, other than that i haven't really done much probing, so any theories or suggestions would be welcomed. Sounds to me like you have a small vacuum leak or an idle control motor problem explaning the check engine light.Take it to you local mechanic have inspect it thuroly.
