Does rectified DC voltage show up as AC voltage on an auto-sensing meter?
My fluke T5 meter is auto sensing and sometimes when i am expecting a DC reading it reads AC. My guess is a rectified dc might be a flat pulse of DC voltage when rectified from an AC sine wave, rather that a flat steady DC value. Any truth behind this?
It depends how it was rectified. If it is with a single diode you have half-wave rectification. You take the sine wave and just cut off the negative half. If you have a four diode bridge you have a full wave rectification. It looks like |sin(wt)|. If there is a capacitor on the dc side then the cap may help fill in some of the bumps in the waveforms described above.
