Stroh Brewery Company $90.81 High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles The Stroh Brewery Company was a beer brewery located in Detroit, Michigan. In addition to their own Strohs brand, they produced or bought the rights to several other brands including Schaefer, Schlitz, Augsburger, Erlanger (beer), Lone Star, Old Milwaukee, Red River, and Signature, as well as manufacturing Strohs Ice Cream. The company was taken over and broken up in 2000 but some of its brands continued to be made by the new owners. Strohs is currently made by the Pabst Brewing Company. During Prohibition, Julius Stroh operated the business under the name The Stroh Products Company, producing near beer (beer with its alcohol extracted), birch beer, soft drinks, malt products, ice cream, and ice. Upon Julius Strohs death in 1939, his son Gari Stroh assumed the presidency. Garis brother John succeeded him in 1950 and became Strohs chairman in 1967. Garis son Peter, who had joined the company following his graduation from Princeton University in 1951, became president in 1968. Please tell Sandy it is the WESTON state hospital, not WESTIN state hospital! I lived less than a half mile from the building across the river for 6 years. “You've got to keep the loonies on the path” as Pink Floyd would say. We were always afraid a demented, foaming at the mouth, ex high school band member would escape and creep into our bedrooms at night to hide under the bed, or even worse steal all the Strohs beer in the fridge. I say turn it into a “Huge Historic Haunted House” or 4H club. Then have Halloween every night…..with Jamie Lee Curtis as host, that would generate revenue! She still looks “HOT” …have you seen her lately? Anyway…I miss the place, and especially talking to “Aqualung” through the iron fence. He taught me how to play chess.
