How do you safely remove rust from a vintage tin litho toy?
I love to collect tin toys, however I find the vintage toy often contains some rust. Can someone help me clean them up safely? Is there a specialty item I need to buy?
i do toy restorations and i use CLR" Calcium Lime and Rust removal. be aware when you do remove the rust do this very very slowly and dilute the CLR - you'll get a knack for it eventually. I also use a tin based bondo and matching paint to restore the toy to its previous pristine condition but again this process takes me at least a month per toy as i do this as a hobby.check out toy restoration sites on the web there are zillions!

Toll Tin $70.1 High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles Toll tin was a term historically used in tin mining in Devon and Cornwall. The holder of a set of tin bounds was required to pay the freeholder of the land on which the bounds had been pitched a portion, called toll tin, of the tin ore (or black tin) extracted. Toll tin became due as soon as the ore was broken from the ground and, although some freeholders may have taken it in this form, it is likely that others opted for the more practical approach of taking it as a portion of the proceeds of the sale of the refined tin (or white tin). Toll tin was not the only way in which a miners share of the tin extracted was reduced he was also required to pay a tax to the crown on the refined tin known as tin coinage before the tin could legally be sold. Tin Foil $93.99 High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles Tin foil, also spelled tinfoil, is a thin foil made of tin.Actual tin foil was superseded by cheaper and more durable aluminium foil after World War II, and aluminium foil is sometimes confused with tin foil because of its similarity to the former material.Foil made from a thin leaf of tin was commercially available before its aluminium counterpart. In the late 19th century and early 20th century, tin foil was in common use, and some people continue to refer to the new product by the name of the old one. Tin foil is stiffer than aluminium foil. It tends to give a slight tin taste to food wrapped in it, which is a major reason it has largely been replaced by aluminium and other materials for wrapping food. The first audio recordings on phonograph cylinders were made on tin foil. Tin Drum, The $30.01 Rated: NASynopsis: In Volker Schlondorff's award-winning adaptation of Nobel Prize-winner Gunter Grass' allegorical novel, David Bennent plays Oskar, the young son of a German rural family, circa 1925. On his third birthday, Oskar receives a shiny new tin drum. At this point, rather than mature into one of the miserable specimens of grown-up humanity that he sees around him, he vows never to get any older or any bigger. Whenever the world around him becomes too much to bear, the boy begins to hammer on his drum; should anyone try to take the toy away from him, he emits an ear-piercing scream that literally shatters glass. As Germany goes to hell during the 1930s and 1940s, the never-ageing Oskar continues savagely beating his drum, serving as the angry conscience of a world gone mad. Filled to overflowing with unforgettable sequences, The Tin Drum was one of the most financially successful German films of the 1970s and won the 1979 Oscar for Best Foreign Film. In the late 1990s, the film became the center of a censorship controversy when some U.S. videotapes were confiscated because of the film's supposed violation of a child pornography statute. Opening My First Typhlosion Tin from Heartgold Soulsilver
More to Tin Than Soda Cans
Many of us are very familiar with the tin can. That is where we get our sodas. Mention tin can manufacturer and we would most likely picture a huge factory with many machines involved in making soda cans. Apart from soda cans, these tin can manufacturers also manufacture other tin objects.
Tin manufacturers may also produce tin boxes. These boxes can range from simple cookie boxes to big tin storage chests. Somewhere in between are tin lunchboxes that would carry designs loved by children. Tin boxes are also made in a smaller scale. Skilled craftsman can design and create tin boxes that carry very delicate designs. These boxes last a long time and could even pass down from one generation to another as a family heirloom.
One type of small tin box that is handcrafted is a pill box. A pill box is meant to carry your daily dosage of medicine in style. Instead of pulling out a plastic case with the days marked over small compartments, you could pull out an elegantly decorated tin pill box and take your medication in style.
The piggy bank also comes in tin form. Buying a tin piggy bank that actually resembles a pig could cost a fortune due to the rounded shapes and rarity. Tin piggy banks are normally cubed in shape with a slot at one end. There would be a locking mechanism as well to keep your money safe inside. The interesting thing about tin piggy banks is that it is quite easy to have your name engraved on one to personalize it.
Drink coasters can also be made out of tin. Simple plain designs could be suitable for everyday use coasters while crafting or stamping intricate designs would go well for decoration coasters. Tin coasters with elegant designs on them would make great gifts. You could also stamp your fraternity or sorority symbol on some tin coasters and use them as gifts for alumni.
The next time someone mentions tin can manufacturer, you would already know what exactly the manufacturers are making.
