SSD + HDD system performance.?
Im about to buy a 60 gig SSD. now obviously its not enough space to JUST have that in a system. but will have an SSD and a regular HDD in the same rig. but will have a HDD present reduce the overall performance of the system?

No.
It will only affect the performance for the data that is stored on that drive.
In other words, if you have a very large file on the SSD drive and a copy of that same file on the HDD, the one on the HDD would take longer to open than the same file on the SSD drive.

How can I use a USB external HDD on a computer that uses linux as an operating system?
Do I need to reformat? Yes I am aware that reformating deletes files...
What is you hard drive formated as? Linux reads most formats (ex2, FAT, FAT32, NTSF). If the USB HDD isn't working, first check to see if it is mounted. run fdisk -l in a terminal. That will give you a list of all the disk on your system and there name. Say your disk is /dev/sda1 (just as a example). Then you need to mount it if it's not already. Make a folder that you can mount it in that you have read and write permissions in. Run " mount /dev/sda1 /youfoldername " That should mount it in that folder. Then change directories to that folder and it should show you the content of the disk.
