Studio Decor Light
Nikon D5000 set-up for artistic nude?
Hy, I would like to shoot a few pics, nude, in a few rooms. Of course, no special decor, or studio available. Simply a few pictures in a room.
Any ideas for the optimal settings for a Nikon d5000, for normal (natural) light, with no blitz usage?

What's you're final goal (ie what lighting affect are you trying to achieve?). High key? Low key?
If you're going for high key shots you want to light in a ratio of about 2:1 (key:fill). Best bet is if you've got a large window, have model stand by it. If the light from the window is very harsh, then consider a white bed sheet over the window to diffuse it.
Opposite the window, use a large white card as 'fill' to bounce the window off of. Use a smallish aperture (you'll be a bit limited if you're only using the kit lens though) - go as small as you can. Adjust shutter speed/ISO as necessary.
For low key, you want a dark background, so shoot in a dimmed room. If you were using off camera flash, I'd suggest shooting at max sync speed to kill the ambient & having the lighting ratios at more like 8:1. Without flash though you're looking at some form of continuous light (LED torch maybe?) as a rim/side light.
