1893 12year old Taylor writhed and kicked
after another fevered dream
seeing a hurricane blowing in a ugly truth.
His mom ran into the street, screamed
“My son! He’s sick!
He told of New York in dust and ruin
and a war with no end!”
The medicine man shuffled inside, said, “My boy,
We can cure any disease
but it comes at a mighty fine price”
Up the steps of the church
A boarded up door with a sign that said
"Go home"
It was through the streets of LA
we staggered and tripped.
Humbled by every dark alley
and stranger we found.
We retreated back to my house
sipping cheap red wine
and tapping the guitar to the sound of the waves
So if you give up on life
then I do too.
Yet, know if nobody’s there to hear me
then I’ll just end up strumming my guitar
to the moon.
The moon will listen and perhaps send a tune back in your dreams.
