Shop Sign Diagnostic
Check Engine Light on a 06' Mercedes. Can I go to Pepboys to get it checked out?
The 50,000 mile warranty has expired on my 06' MB C280. Now I have a check engine light on and since I'm thinking of trading in the car, I'm trying to spend as little money as possible on this car. I need to get my check engine sign checked out because my NYS inspection is coming due this month.
Can I go to Pepboys to get it checked out and repaired if any problems? Dealer told me 140 + Tax just to diagnose it and Pepboys told me $80 for the diagnostic test.
Will they be able to Scan the sign, Read the code from the computer and remove the check engine sign so I can pass the NYS inspection?
I recently took my car to a local, but relatively big, auto repair shop, but they weren't able to scan the code for the error..
Can anyone please help??
It depends. Most check engine lights are caused by emission problems and any shop with an OBD 11 reader can check the code to find the problem. In some cases you may need a more complex tool to test for problems but PEP boys should be able to read it. However they may not be able to fix the problem and that could end up costing you more to take it to a second shop to get it fixed. Why not look for an independent MB shop? On the only does MB or German cars. In most of these shops they have the tool and the knowledge to fix any problem.

timing belt on 2003 dodge stratus?
I was driving home the other day and when i was rolling up to a stop sign my car just stoped driving. The accesory was still on so it still had power. I towed and went to the shop and ran a diagnostic on it and it cam up with the camshaft sensor. When overlooking the car we found that the timing belt had broken? how much does it cost to fix and i also heard that on some cars if the timing belt breaks that it can ruin the whole engine? any info on this issue? thanks
if its a 2.4 it is a interference engine, i know i own two of those cars,and i have repaired a lot of them with broke belts before,they may have to tear it down to see how much damage is did to it,i have seen cases where it didn't do any damage at all,so you may get lucky with it,good luck.
