Self Storage
Anyone know of any self-storage companies that will ship your items as well?
I am thinking about moving from Florida to Alaska and it very expensive to ship my small amount of items ($2500-3000). I was thinking if I could just store the items for a while until I got enough money to have them shipped. Does anyone know of a company that does this all for you? It hard to find someone to ship to Alaska in the first place.
Pods don't go to Alaska.
Your best bet might be shipping it, literally. Both Alaska and Florida are on the ocean, accessible to ocean-going ships. It might be possible to rent a shipping container, or just half of one, on a ship going from the gulf to Alaska. As far as leaving your stuff behind, shipping containers are able to be loaded on certain semi-trucks, so you could store it at a dedicated storage area. There's probably not a company to do this, but if you contact your nearest port, they should be able to help you. Here are two examples:
