what's the best way to get a record deal?
i'm a singer songwriter/musician/composer who has written 3 albums of original pop/rock/indie/grunge/folk/ambient music (50 + songs)...i write the lyrics, music and play over 10 instruments in my home office/studio. I'm working on a site right now with my albums and movie script (that i'm also trying to 'get out there')...and my myspace has been abandoned as of recent. Any advice?
my students in beijing play some orchestrations...some pretty good little flute, sax, players..i'm from toronto though and came here after i graduated.
i sing in chinese too...although my music basically sounds like everything except for hip hop/rap.

Try sending demo tapes out to radio stations.. see if they will play your music.. if they don't.. it simply means its not good enough..
you can also approach a record companys head office with your demo tapes if you really think they are hot hot.. but know this.. if they are not you face shame.. these are the rules of the game.. few get a first let alone a second shot..
my best advice is do it all yourself.. find local distributors and get into local gigging to boost our popularity.. then you can approach record companys for a better deal..
if you cant perform your music because it is a mixtape style then dont bother.. that kind of music sythnesized is overdone and will become moreso.. luckily you can play a host of instruments.. so hopefully you can write some awsome riffs and hooks.. and blow the record execs away with a live performance..
sure they'll consider signing you .. if you're very good..
