My son thinks high school is going to be like High School Musical. What should I do?


He is currently an 8th grader, but thinks that high school is going to be like High School Musical, with the singing and dancing and harmony and all. He keeps practicing his singing at all times of the night and he's really excited about it.

Now the reality is that we live in the rougher part of town, and he will go to a "rougher" high school which will certainly not be HSM. I don't want to crush his hopes (he is a very sensitive boy) but he needs a reality check.

What should I do?

we all hold silly, futile dreams at some time or another, (right now im trying to write a book)... and we all need a nice reality check too. i like to think that my book might get published, even though i know it never will:) your son thinks high school will be like HSM, and its not. just tell him what your years of high school were like, or something about high school to shock him out of his daydreams. you have to tell him the truth so hes ready and doesnt go in singing, and out by way of ambulance. it may crush his hopes... but he cant live in a la-la world like that. if he ever wants to get anywhere in life, he has to know and understand reality. its going to be hard for him, but after a while he will accept it, and move on with his life.
