Do they teach manners in school?
I was on bus...lot's of kids from Cleveland High here in Seattle on bus....
little old Asian Ladies get on bus with bags from grocery shopping in International District and NOT ONE KID got up and offered seat...
Older Black guy in wheelchair on way home from VA asked kids why they won't get up and let 80 year old woman sit down....
they stared into space looking sullen.
They obviously aren't getting civilized at home...
wondering if school is picking up slack and the kids just weren't listening during the lesson that says that you give up seat for old, pregnant, heavily laden, and injured.
I couldn't give up seat...I was already standing on crowded bus..
Sadly, in these days of testing mandates and "no child left behind" many schools don't teach manners much anymore. It is very sad. I think that if schools started doing this, discipline problems and bullying would go way down and civility would go up. I worry when "Generation Me" becomes the elders and grandparents, how much of society's manners will be left.
