Rules Tavern

What kinds of places serving drinks do and do not ask bartenders to work as food servers first?
At some restaurants and lounges they ask bartenders to work their way up from servers to bartenders, what kinds of bars, taverns, clubs, etc do not have these kinds of rules and will generally let a bartender start as a bartender, as not to waste time ? How long do some places expect a bartender to be a food server or other position first? Weeks, months? ??
It really depends on the individual restaurant or bar. I'd say that -most- places will generally want to promote from within- that way they already know the work habits and skills of the person. The most common exception to this is when a new restaurant or bar opens. Check the help wanted ads in your local free weekly newspaper or Craigs list.
If you've never worked as a bartender, though, your chances of getting hired straight to a tender position are pretty slim. If you do take a server or barback position, I'd expect to be there for 3-6 months minimum, and pestering your manager all the time asking "when are you going to make me a bartender?" is a good way to make sure you don't have a job at all...
Good luck!

Tavern $54.86 High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles A tavern or pothouse is, loosely, a place of business where people gather to drink alcoholic beverages and, more than likely, also be served food, though not licensed to put up guests. The word derives from the Latin taberna and the Greek /taverna, whose original meaning was a shed or workshop. The distinction of a tavern from an inn, bar or pub varies by location, in some places being identical and in others being distinguished by traditions or by legal license. In Renaissance England, a tavern was distinguished from a public ale house by dint of being run as a private enterprise, where drinkers were guests rather than members of the public. SF Tavern Pool League Rules - sfpool.com 1 of 2
Is a Tournament Director allowed to play in his/her own poker tournament?
There is a TD, or actually several who had to give up their first place winnings but didn't express why to anyone. I would just like to know is that legal for a TD to play in their own tournament?
This is for World Poker Tour Amateur Poker League but if someone knows what are the rules to World Tavern Poker for TDs, I would like to know
I don't know about that specific tournament buy I do know that casinos will often have house employees play in sit n go's and tournaments. They are called shills. The purpose is to get games going and to make fields larger and more enticing to the visiting gamblers. It is perfectly legal. They have to wear a name badge and identify themselves as a shill. If they win, they do not get the winnings as they are already being paid a salary by the casino. The house gets the winnings. A lot of times, these players will be poker dealers so that have experience at the table and can usually be quite good players. Hope this helps.
