Is a food service vendor allowed to refuse to provide free tap water?
I was recently at a Pizza Hut Express in California and asked for tap water, and was refused. I was told to buy bottled water instead at a nearby machine. I have never been refused water like this before -- does anyone know if there is some sort of state mandate that requires restaurants/bars/food service counters to offer tap water when it's available from their soft drink dispensing machines?
They have every right to deny you, sadly. Some places, it's all about the dinero and less about being kind. No mandates exist, it's not illegal, and they can't get in trouble for it. Next time go into a privately owned business, and they'll prolly hook you up.
But then again, they might even charge you 10 cents just for using the cup.
