does anyone know the difference between a blu ray player and and an up converter dvd player with a hdmi cable?
Yeah you see. Whats the difference in the picture quality between a blu ray player with an hdtv and an up converter dvd player with an hdmi cable connected to a hdtv? i know sorry long question but can someone please answer me Thank you.
Yeah the quality of your video is determined by how much information is displayed. Regular DVD might have 480 lines making up the picture. A BlueRay DVD has 1080 lines making up the picture. When you upconvert a regular DVD, you are basically "stretching" the picture out, but you are not getting any more quality out of it. The cable you are using is not going to matter, it is the quality of the source that counts.
For instance, if you have two of the same photo on your computer, one is 320*240 and the other is 1024.768, and you take the smaller photo and increase its size with some editing software to make it 1024.768, you know its not going to look as good as the one that was 1024.768 already. Same idea.

Advanced Sony Blue-ray Bd Player
Beam chassis and the rigid frame of the Sony blu-ray player BDP-S5000ES reduce the vibration. The blu-ray player also has the “R core transformer” that lowers the digital noise’s interference. As many of the consumers have extensive libraries of DVD movies, so new technology “precision cinema High Definition” has been introduced in the Sony BDP-S5000ES player. This new technology helps to convert the 480i standard definition to 1080p and via HDMI it outputs resolution signal equivalent to full High Definition HD. This Sony model has D/A conversion of 297 MHz/14 bit which improves the output of “analog component” video. The BDP-S5000ES player detects & corrects the wobbling disks from 3 directions with the help of “Precision Drive High Definition”. Therefore, the playback of scratched or the bent bluray DVD and disks is stabilized. The disks of AVCHD that are encoded with technology of x.v. Color and video output of deep color are also supported by the BDP-S5000ES player. The player is compatible to video formats array that include DVD+RW/+R, CD, CD-RW/-R, DVD-RW/-R, JPEG on DVD/BD/CD and BD-RE/-R recordable media. The player features graphic interface “Xross Media Bar” that makes the menu navigation easy.
The other new player from Sony is model BDP-S300 that can output HD video of 1920X1080p. This is probably the highest resolution of HD signal that is available via HDMI connection. The video formats supported by Sony BDP-S300 are MPEG-2, VC1 and MPEG-4 AVC. The customers that have HD Television set without High-Definition Multimedia Interface (HDMI) can get the 1080i by the available analog component.
The new Sony BD player supports the DVD standard and also improves the existing DVD library’s picture performance. The Sony player can upscale 1080p through the High-Definition Multimedia Interface (HDMI) to 1080p capable High Definition Televisions. The signal outputs of the Sony player are 24 frames/sec. So, film like image is reproduced. The Sony player also supports xvYCC encoded AVC-HD disks. “xvYCC” is branded by Sony as “x.v.Color” and it is wide-color space’s new standard. The player expands the video data approx. 1.8 times. So, the Sony player will output more vivid & natural colours same as to what our eyes actually see.
The BD player has the new “BRAVIA theater” that utilizes the HDMI connectivity. It integrates the BD player’s operation with supported BRAVIA video/audio receiver or LCD flat panel TV. The user can turn on automatically simply by pressing a button, and easily can switch inputs that match the connected devices. Sony BD player features the multi channel digital PCM audio output through the High-Definition Multimedia Interface HDMI. “Dolby Digital Plus” can also be decoded by model BDP-S300, hence optimum sound is provided to the equipped receiver. Sony BD player supports AVC-HD, BD-Java, DVD playback from DVD+R/DVD+RW/DVD encoded disks, BD-ROM, CD playback and the JPEG images and MP3 audio files recorded on recordable DVD media.
This Sony BD player now joins the full 1080 High Definition product line, which starts form BD BDP-S1 player and further extends to LCD BRAVIA TV, bluray disk enabled VAIO computer systems, PlayStation-3, recordable blu-ray disk media and the PC drives.
