Rainbow Light Bulb
Is there such a thing as three-way (50, 100, and 150 watt) colored light bulbs?
By this I mean, "Can you buy a blue light-bulb (or green or red or whatever) that has a 50, 100 and 150 watt setting?" It doesn't even have to be 50, 100, and 150. It can be any three levels, really.
If so, it would seem that you would only need a red, a green, and a blue 3-way light bulb to make light in any color of the rainbow.
To answer your first question.... No.
Ah ha... but to answer our second question.......... No.

And sorry to say no dice. But you know, you could buy a 3-way compact-flourescent bulb and paint it 3 colors, see what happens. I say do a CFL since they dont generate as much heat.

Rainbow Lightbulb
What quality of light does an auradescent bulb produce, and how is it different from a normal incandescent?
I saw these special bulbs (GE Auradescent) with a kind of rainbow soap-bubble sheen to the glass in the home improvement store, and they look very interesting, but there were no displays to show how they looked when lit, and the employees professed complete ignorance and inability to provide such a display. So I thought I'd ask here if anyone else had used them, if they liked them, how they'd affected the color and feel of the area they illuminated, and where in a home you recommend they be used- or avoided.
Light production is about the same. The big difference is the ornamental look of the bulb. In an open fixture where you can see the bulb, it is more attractive. That is why we classify it as an ornamental bulb. You get a slight aurora look to the bulb. The slight rainbow look of the bulb can add an extra touch to most any fixture and is a cheap way to change your fixture without much modification.
