Pub Neon Signs Hi, I'm new to the pub trade so I need help here.?
I've been told that if I contact breweries that they will send me free promotional gear, like point of sale. Ice buckets, Neon signs, pictures and glasses ect.
If this is true, could someone help by pointing me in the right direction.

Try contacting the marketing department of breweries, and let them know you would like to sell their beer in your pub, and if there is anything extra they can do to get your business (let them know your shopping around and still determining your supply, but don't make any promises until you've contacted all local breweries).
Miller, Bud and Coors dominate approx. 80% to 90% of the market when it comes to sales. Anheuser-Busch dominates about 50% alone. You would want a variety, but when you dealing with large companies, let them know your interested in becoming primarily an "Anheuser Busch" bar (for example) resulting in you selling their competetors like Miller and Coors (to ensure every customer gets what they want), but a majority of what you will carry will be their companies. FYI A-B has bought out and distributes a lot of smaller brands including Stela, Becks, Boddingtons, St. Pauli, and even Monster Energy drink (among others) - so it's not all crappy Bud or Bud Light.
I'm not 100% sure about promotions, but I know small breweries are dying for your business. You'll probably have better luck talking to someone at a small, local brewery. I live in Milwaukee, and one small brewery in particular (my favorite) has connections in most local bars, and even some around Chicago....and these are just the bars I am aware of. Anyway, I know they have signs and everything and work well with local bars. I've also heard they are nicer to deal with than the larger, corporate breweries.
Also - if your interested, watch the documentary "Beer Wars." Very interesting! You'll see what I mean when I talk about small breweries dying for your business!
