Pub Bar Beer Any one know what a Scottish pub/bar is like?
I'm planning a trip to Scotland for the summer 2011. I want to try a few different places for pubs/bars. Is a Scottish pub like any other bar? What's the atmosphere like? What kind of drinks are there? Is it only beer, I hope not. I hate beer. I'm a vodka girl. I love Smirnoff drinks.
I might stay at a hotel that has a bar (and a dress code. what?)

I'm Scottish, Live in Scotland and been to a LOT of Scottish pubs.
If you go the more popular bars then yeah they are a lot like other bars all over the world lol. But the smaller ones might be a bit different.. like in small towns etc. The locals are always very friendly to tourists though, most of them will be happy to talk to you.
Though in Glasgow I've been to a few that are not very friendly with American tourists.. unfortunately. Just try not to be too loud or obnoxious and you'll be fine lol. We just have that false stereotype over here about Americans and some Scottish people won't give you the time of day. I wish it wasn't like this but what can you do eh..
You can get vodka at any pub don't worry! Vodka is very popular with Scottish women so there is plently lol.
Sometimes the "posher" pubs might not let you in with trainers (sneakers) or jeans if you're a guy. Most of them aren't bothered though so I wouldn't worry about it too much.
