What kind of power supply can I put in my Dell 530 to run a 8800GTS?
I just got a new Dell 530 Inspiron and i bought an 8800GTS video card separetly. I found out that my power supply is too weak and i need at least a 400W power supply. Can i just buy any power supply that has the 6 pin PCI-e plug that i need and more than 400W? Or are there only certain power supplies that will fit my case? I want to do it as cheap as possible. Any help would be great !
You also have to make sure you have at least 26 amps on the +12V rails of the power supply. Some have multiple +12V rails so you would look at the total amps of all the +12V rails.
The last thing you want to go cheap on is your power supply cuz cheapo power supplies run unstable voltages which makes for random reboots and poor performance. Look for a quality ATX PSU that exceeds both the wattage and amperage requirements for the video card.

If your motherboard is an ATX motherboard (complies to the ATX form factor) and your case is an ATX case, then this power supply would work just fine.
Your motherboard likely has a 24-pin main power connector. If it has an older 20-pin main power connector, the power supply will also be fine, because it uses a "20+4" connector, which means it will fit either type.
