Lisa owns and operates a pizza and calzone concession at a county fair each summer. On two consecutive days in July, Lisa reported the following sales: on the first day, she sold 520 slices of pizza and 280 calzones; on the second day, she sold 390 slices of pizza and 210 calzones. Write a convincing argument to show whether her sales on the second day could have been $1057.50 if her sales on the first day were $1410. (Assume that the prices remained the same over the two days.)
If p = the price of a slice of pizza, and c = the price of a calzone, on the first day she made 520 p + 280c = 1410. If of the second day she only sold 3/4 as many pizza slices and 3/4 as many calzone, she would have sold 390 slices and 210 calzone, or 390p + 210 c. But then she should only have made (3/4)(1410) = 1057.50 dollars.
