Open Closed Sign
On Sims 2, Open for Business - how do I get customers for my shop?
I have a little toy store on my property (not in the business district) - I have a sign, a cash register, an open/closed sign, tons of little Sir-Bricks-A-Lot, but no customers.
There are always guests in my house - why aren't they buying? I set the price to average - is that too much in the beginning?
Check that there is someone on the cash register, it may cause the shoppers to not buy.
Otherwise, make sure that you have clicked on the open/closed sign and clicked open.
If that doesn't get people buying, try using one of your sims and (I can't remember which one is right) either click on the object and use 'show to'... (not sure if that's even real) or click on the person and see if there is anything to do with getting them to buy.
Next... make sure you did select the price thing in the top right hand corner, selected the price and then clicked on the object to mark it as for sale (in this mode everything is darkened and 'for sale' items are lit up in yellow).
If none of this works, try hiring some employees (you can do this via the phone) (I'm not sure if this'll work, but you can try if nothing else will), and call them into work using your open/closed sign. If that doesn't work, there is probably a bug and see if there is an update on the sims 2 website.
