One Airship
Are there any airship/blimp/zeppelin companies doing business in the Green Bay-Chicago corridor ?

It would be neat to take a trip on one of those graceful flying machines.

Here is a link for one of the largest. They provide airships and services worldwide. To the best of my knowledge, the airships we see around Chicago are flown in from elsewhere. I don't know of any permanently based here.

With Airship and Submarine: A Tale of Adventure

$29.89

A story of aerial and submarine peril and adventure, originally published in 1887 adventures in the air and under the water of Professor Heinrich von Schalckenbergs airship/submarine built from the superlight metal (aethereum) he has discovered. Aetherum is a very light metal that looks like polished silver and has one hundred times the strength of the best steel. This is used to build the Flying Fish, a 600 foot long metal cylinder, sixty feet in diameter at the middle, which travels 120 milesperhour through the air and 150 milesperhour underwater. This volume is a sequel to The Log of the Flying Fish. Harry Collingwood was the pseudonym of William Joseph Cosens Lancaster (18511922), a civil engineer who specialized in seas and harbors. Atop Everest to North Pole and darkest Africa. Wonderful discoveries mammoths and unicorns and unknown tribes. Leon Gammell The Flying Fish, that marvellous achievement of science, actually surpasses all Jules Vernes creations; with incredible speed she flies through the air, skims over the surface of the water, and darts along the ocean bed. We strongly recommend our schoolboy friends to possess themselves of her log. Accidents Of Airships From 1933 To 2006

In the start of airships, minor accidents were very common. However, these accidents were considered as a learning point for experts, manufacturers and the crew members. In this article, I have explained some minor accidents of airships, along with the loss in monetary terms and in the form of deaths.

On 4 April 1933, a US airship named as "J-3 A7382" was lost in surf of New Jersey. In this accident, two experienced crew members lost their precious lives.

On 19 April 1944, a US airship named as "K-133" was caught by a thunderstorm during its flight over the Gulf of Mexico. 13 crew members were traveling in the airship at that time out of which 12 were lost and only one survived after spending 21 hours in searching in water.

On 19 April 1944, 3 airships of Goodyear ZNP-K smashed into trees during their flight. After hitting the trees these airships caught fire and caused damage of a high-tension wire. Good Year Company was held responsible for the loss after which they paid all the expenses in repairing these wires.

On 8 October 1980, "N5499A" crashed at the navel engineering station during its flight. This airship was on lease by Jordache Enterprises Co at that time. Therefore, the company was held responsible for this loss. The cause of this accident was the poor design of the airship and the no experience of pilots, as indicated by the NTSB report.

On 1 July 1986, Helistat 97-34J crashed during its flight at navel engineering station during its flight. it was an experimental flight resulted in the death on one crew member.

On 4 July 1986, an airship named as "Bigfoot" was crashed after hitting a top building. This airship was designed for advertisement purposes and was advertising for Pizza Hut during the accident.

On 1 July 1988, an airship "N760AB" was damaged during its flight. This airship was developed by American Blimp Corporation.

On 28 October 1999, an airship ""Spirit of Akron" lost its control during its flight. The blimp was developed by the most renowned company, "Good Year." The blimp lost control due to its metal splines as indicated by the report given by NTSB. In addition, minor injuries were only received by the technicians and the crew members.

On 16 June 2005, a famous airship of Good Year Company named as "Stars and Stripes" crashed just after its take off. The reason of this incident was not exactly known but experts believe that it was due to the bad weather conditions. Fortunately, no one was injured in this incident.

A recent blimp incident occurred on 26 Sep 2006, which crashed in the area of Manchester. Nobody was injured in this accident. This airship was owned by the American Blimp Corporation. Following the accident, they started great research on blimps to improve the efficiency and to avoid future accidents such as this.
