check engine light came on went to auto zone to get turned off.i need an inspection.my question is:?
is the small computer thing(?) that autozone uses to detect trouble codes the same computer thing that is used for inspection or are they 2 different kinds,cause i am thinking that the trouble code will show up on the mechanics computer when i go for inspection
They usually are the same thing, it is the dealers that have different ones.
If the light went off, you shouldn't have anything to worry about. But if it comes back on you should go get it checked out. Good luck.

Can your car store a code even if the check engine light is off?
I was driving the other day, and my speedometer stopped working, about five minutes after it stopped working, my check engine light came on, and about five minutes after that, it went off again, and hasn't come back on since. so is it possible that a code could still show up if I had it checked? Also, how do do you check the codes on a 1992 toyta celica? the auto stores can't check anything under a 96.
It is possible for it to still retain a code, even if the light went off. As far as checking the code, I would refer to a Haynes or similar car repair manual, they should be able to tell you how in there. I know my older truck you take a paper clip and jump two terminals, and watch for the light to blink in a numerical code. Then reference that code to a list of possible malfunctions.
