How can a small silicon NPN transistor amplifies? Please explain in subatomic level....?
I want to know in terms of movement of subatomic particles in the silicon tansistor, that how can they contribute in the amplification action of a transistor?
Also, what makes NPN transistor widely accepted industrially, than PNP transistor?
NPN and PNP are basically interchangeable at this point, since they are both mass produced. Some specific small-signal amps require one or the other, but for the most part you can design a circuit that uses either with negligible drawbacks.
The mechanics of a transistor are based in the fact that silicon is a semiconductor. This means that silicon (and other elements like Gallium, Arsenide, Aluminum, etc) can have characteristics of both conductors and insulators. Electrons become excited and jump into what is called the 'conduction' band, where they obviously manifest conductive properties. The consequence is that the electrons leave an 'electron hole' in the valence band. These holes effectively have the same charge as a positron.
There is a ton of theory, I suggest reading up on some basic theory via the internet.
