could a busted water pump and a bad serpentine belt affect intake/exhaust valves?
i was driving my 1998 plymouth neon and the engine died, i pulled over to the side of the highway, and the engine was leaking coolant fast. i had it towed to a mechanic and he says the water pump was broken, and as a result the serpentine belt needed to be replaced. he installed those for 300$ (tow included). however the car still didnt run, now they said that two valves (he didnt specify which ones) in two seperate cylinders are bad and its 2200$ to fix. my car is blue booked at approximately 2200$ (not that anyone would ever pay that much for it). he says if i sign the car over to him i wont have to pay for the pump and belt. am i being paranoid or does this sound a little fishy? What should i do ? i know very little about cars, does this quote for the valve replacement (2200$) seem high?
If your engine overheated and warped the valves then yes it could happen. But if the guy bent the valves when he was installing the timing belt over the water pump pully then it's the shops fault and they're lying to cover their wallet. Pull the head off yourself and bring it to a machine shop and they charge you 250 with a head job to replace the valves at 7$ each. I would get another estimate, for a 9 year old neon that seems steep.

I Said "I Love You" Too Soon! Advice for Women Who've Made this Mistake
I said "I love you" too soon in the relationship, now what? This has to be at the top of the list of embarrassing relationship missteps. You're crazy about the guy and you just can't contain it, so you blurt out the words "I love you" to him. He stands there, mouth hanging open, and when he finally regains his composure he's got one thing to say. "Thank you." At that moment you can feel the distance between the two of you expanding and you fear that with that one ill timed phrase you've completely derailed the relationship.
Saying "I love you" too soon does qualify as a dating disaster but it's not impossible to fix. You can repair the damage. The problem with doing that is unless you understand the exact steps you need to take, you'll likely strain the growing relationship even more than it already is.
First and foremost, do not bring it up again. Don't try and explain away the fact that you said it by saying you were tipsy or that you were caught up in the moment. This only serves to draw unnecessary attention to the fact that you made a huge and embarrassing mistake. By trying to clarify what you did, you'll just be pointing a big neon sign at yourself. So, whatever you do, don't talk about it with him again.
Once you've said it, you can't take it back. You should expect his reaction to be quite strong. Typically saying "I love you" too soon will make a man withdraw because he feels cornered.
