Neon Light Replacement Tubes
can i keep 5 neon tetras (fish) in a 1 gallon tank?
i found a cheap 1 gallon tank and i want to put 5-6 neon tetras and one catfish in there. tetras are small fish but will they live in a small tank like that? the box says the tank to good for: guppies, tetras, danios, betas, and corydoras catfish. i also want to put a plant or 2 in there. thanks.
oh ya, the tank has an air pump and a light and it has a filter

No you can not. Both tetras and cory catfish require at least 10 gallons. The reason you can't keep the neon tetras in anything less than a 10 gallon is because they are very fast and active swimmers--which means they need more swimming space--and because they need to live in a school, i.e. 5 or 6, which means there needs to be more room for that number of fish as well. General rule of thumb is "1 inch of fish per 1 gallon", and you see in this case you are WAY overstocking it. Cories also need more room than that, because not only do they get to be bigger than 1 inch, but also need to live in a school as well. If you put 1 neon tetra or 1 cory cat in there, they will be stressed out (due to no school and limited space) and much more prone to sickness and death; if you put a school of them in there, they will STILL be stressed and get sick and probably die, due to very tight quarters, and due to the EXCESSIVE bioload and waste which is 6 times too much for a tank that size. There is no winning solution there. I agree that the best option is for you to get a bigger tank--and just keep this one as a hospital or quarantine tank (or fry tank), and put the fish in at least a 10 gallon. But in case you don't plan on listening to that advice, I will point out that there are few things that can live and survive in a one gallon tank. Besides snails or shrimp, the only other viable option is a betta. Even though some people would say a 1 gallon is still too small for a betta, and I basically agree, I would rather see you put a betta in there, which is much more likely to be content and thrive in a one gallon, than cories or neons or guppies.

4 Advantages of Using an Electronic Ballast
