Animusic 2 - Heavy Light

Eariliest piece of instrumental music you know of?

I know some about Renaissance and and medieval music but every piece I've ever heard is vocal or heavy vocal with light instrumentation. What's the eariliest piece of music you know off written purely for instruments?
First off Bach is before Mozart and I have heard Monteverdi's instrumental music which is about 80 years before Bach and I know Jacopo Peri whos even eariler than Monteverdi wrote instrumental music. I mean before that. Why would you just answer Mozart. I really would like to know. Do you like looking stupid?
As far as I know Caccini didn't write any serious instrumental music. In fact I don't think we have any serving pieces of non strophic music of his (I might be wrong). And other than him it's all Baroque. I was hoping for Renaissance instrumental music (it had to exist the organ was invented long before the Renaissance)
Halac Unic I really like it. Thank you. I had no idea Machaut wrote instrumental pieces (I usally don't like him but I like this).

The very earliest instrumental pieces I know are from the late middle ages. Although the instruments aren't specified, there are quite a few pieces which are obviously not vocal (vocal music was the norm in those days). Some of these were compositional 'exercises', designed to test how complex a texture the composer could build (medieval notation enabled very complex polyrhthyms and contrapuntal writing). The most notable of these is actually quite famous and is a model study of complex contrapuntal writing - it's 'Le greygnour bien' by Matheus de Perusio (died around 1414), which was probably written around 1400. It's the earliest legitimate, fully-notated piece of instrumental music I know. There are other, earlier examples of estampies and other dances but, usually, only a single melody line exists - the rest designed to be extemporised by the performers of the time.

A little earlier than Mozart, eh?

Edit:
Halach Unic has cheated a little, I'm afraid (albeit probably inadvertently). The YouTube video is simply an instrumental rendition of Machaut's chanson balladée entitled "Dame a vous sans retollir". Also, in whatever form you perform it, there is only a melody line - the harmonies you hear on the video are purely conjectural - they were not written by Machaut and this piece would have probably have been sung as an unaccompanied vocal line. These monodic pieces were quite common in the 14th century and there are many examples, the most famous of which is probably Machaut's "Douce dame jolie". The piece I have named is a fully-written-out piece of three-part counterpoint of great complexity.
