Instrument Amplifier $116.3 An instrument amplifier is an electronic amplifier that converts the often barely audible or purely electronic signal from musical instruments such as an electric guitar, an electric bass, or an electric keyboard into an electronic signal capable of driving a loudspeaker that can be heard by the performers and audience. Combination ( combo ) amplifiers include a preamplifier, a power amplifier, tone controls, and one or more speakers in a cabinet, a housing usually made of hardwood, plywood, particleboard, or, less commonly, moulded plastic. Instrument amplifiers for some instruments are also available without an internal speaker; these amplifiers have to be plugged into an external speaker cabinet. A Fender combo amplifier being picked up with a microphone in a recording studio. Instrument amplifiers are available for specific instruments, including the electric guitar, electric bass, electric keyboards, and acoustic instruments such as the mandolin and banjo. Some amplifiers are designed for specific styles of music, such as the traditional style tweed guitar amplifiers used by blues and country musicians, and the Marshall amplifiers used by hard rock and heavy metal bands. Yamaha Tenori-On Led Performance Instrument $999.99 Media artist Toshio Iwai and Yamaha have collaborated to design a music composition tool called the Yamaha Tenori-on that earned PC Magazine's 25 Most Innovative Products Award at the 2008 Consumer Electronics Show (CES). Tenori-on literally means "sound in the palm of your hand" and is equally an art-piece and music-making gadget.Tenori-on is a hand-held interface with a surface of 256 LED buttons that glow as you access different sounds and textures ('Layers') over an infinitely repeating sequence of notes. The 16x16 matrix of LED switches allows everyone to play music intuitively, creating a "visible music" interface. Tenori-on uses a host of internal sounds as well as samples loaded from external sources. With a musical device where sight and touch are every bit as integral as sound, the Yamaha Tenori-on makes musical possibilities endless and the composition process a lot of fun.DJs & producers can use Tenori-on as a unique performance tool that enables them to perform using MIDI and load the Yamaha Tenori-on with samples to 'jam / improvise' within their set BPMs. The Tenori-on 16 x 16 LED button matrix is simultaneously a performance input controller and display. By operating and interacting with the LED buttons and the light they produce you gain access to the Tenori-on's numerous performance capabilities. The Yamaha Tenori-on provides six different performance and sound/light modes for broad performance versatility, and these modes can be combined and used simultaneously for rich, complex musical expression. By holding one of the ten function buttons located on either side of the Yamaha Tenori-on and operating the LED buttons you can change voices, change octaves, and apply a variety of effects and variations to your performance. This unique visual/tactile interface has been specifically designed to allow intuitive, instantaneous operation of a variety of functions.Layers Tenori-on layers can be thought of as "performance parts" or "recording tracks." The Tenori-on has a total of 16 layers. Separate notes and voices can be assigned to each sound layer, and all layers can be played together in synchronization. The 16 layers are divided into six performance mode groups (Score, Random, Draw, Bounce, Push, and Solo). The six modes have different note entry methods and operation. Up to 16 layers created using different modes can be combined for rich, complex musical expression.BlocksOnce complete set of 16 layers is called a "block." The Yamaha Tenori-on can store up to 16 programmed blocks (16-layer groups) in memory, and you can switch from block to block instantly during performance. You could, for example, create a musical composition in one block, then copy that composition to another block and edit it to create a variation of the original composition. Or you can load a number of previously-created compositions into separate blocks from an SD Memory Card and switch between them to create variation during playback.A handheld digi |

Arturia CS-80 V 2.0 Virtual Instrument Software $199 The Arturia CS-80 V 2.0 virtual synth is the reproduction of the legendary Yamaha CS-80, which was considered by many as the "ultimate polyphonic synthesizer," back in the late 70s. It was made popular by artists and groups like Toto, Jean-Michel Jarre, Keith Emerson, Stevie Wonder, Vangelis, Ultravox, and Peter Gabriel, just to name a few. More than twenty five years after its release, the time has come to rediscover a sound that has extensively contributed to the history of music.Sound MAP:Explore hundreds of sounds in this virtual instrument software using Arturia's revolutionary Sound MAP. Locate areas you like and pick a sound that will stimulate your creativity. Morph sounds on the MAP by clicking anywhere you like. Be creative, be funky, be a sound-traveler.The Arturia CS-80 V 2.0 virtual instrument offers all the features of the original, plus a new generation of innovative features, taking the original design to a new elevated level: A modulation matrix to rebuild all circuits gives you a choice of 12 sources and 38 destinations for 10 additional modulations A Multi Mode allows you to assign a different sound to each polyphonic voice. 4 different keyboard sections for "multitimbrality," with the possibility to direct each voice (4 polyphonic modes, and 3 unison modes from 2 to 8 voices) An arpeggiator and a stereo delayThe Arturia CS-80 V 2.0 virtual instrument comes loaded with more than 400 presets made by a selection of talented sound designers.A little history lessonIn 1976, Yamaha introduced the CS-80, a synthesizer based on the same circuits as the GX1. The price tag ($6900) put it out of the reach of most musicians, and the weight (83kgs with stand) made it sometimes hard to use on stage. But the qualities of this Yamaha synthesizer, considered Japan's first great synth, made it immediately famous in the music industry. Thanks to it's heavy use in the late 70s and early 80s by a number of pop groups, including Electric Light Orchestra, Toto, Paul McCartney and Wings, Vangelis, Bon Jovi, Jean-Michel Jarre, Geoffrey Down, Stevie Wonder, and many others, the CS-80 turned into a real myth.Peter Forrest (in the "A-Z of Analogue Synthesizers") says: "When it comes to trying to decide which of the top-flight synths is the best ever, it's not easy. But if you are looking at richness of sound coupled with performance power, and sheer overkill, maybe nothing can touch it." |

Educating With Musical Instruments
Many middle school and high school curriculums will include a music program. The use of music in the education program used to be considered an extra-curricular activity that earned the student no credit toward graduating. In the modern school curriculum, students are encouraged to learn a musical instrument and some will excel in the endeavor and be awarded college scholarships or an invitation to pursue a degree at a arts college.
Many school programs will include band as an elective course when students enter the fifth grade. The students will be given the option of choosing a musical instrument and if that instrument is in short supply, it will be the responsibility of the parent to buy a new or used one for the child. The sheet music for all school band programs is supplied free of charge, but students that take private instruction will have many workbooks to buy during the course of the training involved.
The progress made in learning to play a musical instrument will be derived from the amount of time that the student devotes to practice. Since the music classes at school are only scheduled to be an hour long, the student must often take the various sheets of music home and continue to practice in an area where there is certain to be no interruptions. The school's band director time will be spread thin among many students throughout the day. Individual instruction is often not possible after school hours.
A bandleader might prefer to educate band members in small groups that center around the musical instrument category. Some afternoons can be marked for string instrument players and the music sheets for only those students will be available. All other students wishing extra instruction will have to make arrangements to stay late on the day scheduled for another instrument type. With five days in a school week, the percussion section, woodwinds, brass and strings all have days open for special instruction.
A child can use other methods to spur the learning curve along a bit, and many parents are willing to rent or buy music scores and music playing devices so that the child's learning can progress at a faster rate. The public libraries are a great place for educating children on all manners of musical instrument. Children that learn two instruments at once end up being well-rounded people when they become adults. A child can be educated in music history just by listening to music created by musical composers such a Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Ludwig van Beethoven, and Johann Sebastian Bach.
Parents can help in educating with musical instruments by exposing their children to musical styles such as jazz and taking children to areas where this music style is famous such as New Orleans, Louisiana. The opportunities for educating children with musical instruments and the sound of music are endless. A child might show an interest in music long before they ever reach school age and parents must grab hold of that education opportunity because there is no ceiling on where it might lead.
