Initially, Tom feels disappointed but later he persuades a friend to trade small treasure in return of doing his work. From this treasure, Sawyer buys out tickets for a Sunday school to memorize Bible verses and uses ticket to claim a Bible prize.
A new girl, Becky Thatcher, arrives in the town with whom Sawyer falls in love. Sawyer convinces Becky to get engaged but the engagement soon breaks off when Becky learns that Sawyer has previously been engaged to Amy Lawrence as well. After being stunned, Tom is accomplice to graveyard at night by huckleberry Finn, who is the son of town drunk. At graveyard both witnesses a horrific event; murder of a young doctor by half breed Native American Injun Joe. Both Huck and Tom runaway scared and swear that they wouldn’t tell anyone about the murder. Soon, Injun Joe blames a hapless drunk, Muff Potter, of committing the murder. When Potter is arrested Tom starts feeling guilty and anxiety.
After this Tom, friend Joe Harper and Huck runaway to Island for the purpose of becoming pirate where they get the news that the community is looking for their bodies. To observe the commotion, one night Tom sneaks back home and is remorse at seeing how his loved ones are suffering. He then gets an idea of appearing at the funeral of his own and surprises everyone. He asks Huck and Joe to do same. This return of theirs is met with rejoice.
Back to school, Tom wins Becky back in his favor. At Potter’s trial Tom, struck by guilt, speaks out against Injun Joe. Injun Joe, through the courtroom windows, flees.
As summer arrives, Tom and Huck decides to hunt for a buried treasure in haunted house. When they venture upstairs, they hear sounds and hides. Through peering holes, they see Injun Joe along with a companion enter the house and overhear their plan of burying a stolen treasure. While digging they find a box of gold but gets suspicious of someone else’s presence when they see Huck and Tom’s digging tool. They go away with the gold.
Huck then follows Joe everywhere to look for an opportunity to grab the gold. On night Huck sees Injun and his companion and overhears them planning to attack Widow Douglas. Huck runs to fetch help and by stopping this violence becomes a hero.
On the other side, Tom is on a picnic with his classmates, including Becky. Becky and Tom are lost in a cave. Next morning men start searching for them but as they are about to give up Tom finds a way out. They also get to know that the cave is being used as hideout by Injun Joe. Becky’s father seals the cave entrance and Joe dies of hunger. Joe’s companion drowns while trying to escape.
One week later, Huck and Tom go back to cave through new found entrance and gets the gold box. Widow Douglas adopts Huck but Huck tries to get away from a civilized life but agrees to stay when Tom offers him to join his Robber band.
