New York Lounge $24.99 This two-disc concept in Wagram's long-running series once again divides up two discs, one suitable for setting an ambience during the daytime and one for the night hours. The first disc is a bit unsteady, wavering from hip-hop to acid jazz and back again with very few songs of note -- save for the Detroit Experiment's brilliant "Space Odyssey" and Jazzy Jeff teaming with Erro for "Rock Wit U." However, where the first disc falters, the second disc showcases some of the finest dance music producers who have graced the New York City circuit for the previous five years. Disco gurus and environites Daniel Wang and Metro Area are present, as are DJ Spinna and house legends Masters at Work and Romanthony. It's an enjoyable compilation and much better than most of the stuff on the overly Saturday chill-out compilation market, but it would have been a dynamite release if it had been slimmed down to a one-disc excursion. ~ Rob Theakston |

Lounge Lizards $11.99 Lounge Lizards: John Lurie (alto saxophone); Evan Lurie (keyboards); Arto Lindsay (12-string guitar); Steve Piccolo (bass); Anton Fier (drums).Recorded at CBS Recording Studios, New York, New York between July 21 & 29, 1980.Though history has largely relegated them to a blind corner of artsy fusion for people who don't like real jazz, the Lounge Lizards still sound pretty terrific today. The ironic fake jazz label they chose at the time doesn't fit today; this is more real than a lot of what's marketed as jazz right now.Thelonious Monk is the clearest influence, with covers of his "Well You Needn't" and "Epistrophy" among the highlights. Guitarist Arto Lindsay sometimes dominates the proceedings with his atonal yet forcefully rhythmic guitar, but saxophonist John Lurie and his pianist brother Evan, who between them wrote most of the album, are usually in the spotlight. The noir "Incident on South Street" is something of an art-jazz standard now, but the quality of the album is consistently high, with several other tracks reaching the same musical heights. |

Poughkeepsie is in New York
Poughkeepsie is a city in New York, USA. It can be found in the Hudson River Valley between New York City and Albany. Poughkeepsie is located in Dutchess County, about half way between New York City and the state capitol of Albany, on the east side of the Hudson River.
The name comes from the word which means the reed covered lodge by the little water place referring to a spring or stream feeding into the Hudson River, south of the present downtown area. Poughkeepsie is known as The Queen City of the Hudson.
It is a trade centre and was once a major manufacturing centre, but suffered severe economic decline in the early 1990s. It now has computer hardware and software research and development firms and light manufacturing.
Local attractions include the FD Roosevelt Home and Library, Vanderbilt Mansion and Gardens, Vassar College, Marist College, Woodbury Commons Factory Outlets, Dutchess County Fairgrounds,Culinary Institute of America, West Point US Military Academy, and nearby vineyards, golf and shopping.
When the sun goes down, the Hudson Valley late night scene heats up. Bars, lounges and restaurants fuse music, food and spirits to create a friendly atmosphere for locals, travellers and musicians.
For shoppers it is filled with specialty shops offering unique gifts, clothing and antiques created in the Hudson Valley by local artisans. It also is home to many beautiful wineries offering award winning wines. Its first rate restaurants offer unique dining featuring many of the Valleys local bounty.
The Mid Hudson Bridge crosses the river at Poughkeepsie, as does a former rail bridge which was the first Hudson crossing to be built south of Albany. The Mid Hudson Bridge is pretty bridge and a suspension bridge. However at night its lit with coloured lights and it is just beautiful. It is in red and blue. If youre in the area, go down to the riverside at night and admire. You can walk across the bridge, or to do it virtually visit.
