Yorkshire is a diverse and beautiful county, which offers miles of beautiful countryside, including National Parks and gardens. as well as this, the county offers a few vibrant cities including Leeds & Sheffield, plus a few littler market towns like Harrogate.
According to a 1991 survey, Yorkshire boasts a population of 3,978,484. This makes it the biggest county in england, which is the reason why county is divided into 4 sections: north yorkshire, south yorkshire, west yorkshire & east yorkshire.
Yorkshire has a rich history, which dates back to before roman times. Indeed, the first people who lived in the county were the Celts, who came from two separate tribes, the Brigantes & the Parisii.
Although, Yorkshire owes a lot of its growth to the industrial revolution, which happened during the nineteenth century. The county boasted a thriving coal, textile & steel industry around this time, which boosted its population & made it much richer.
During world war 2, Yorkshire became an important base for royal air force Bomber jets.
There are lots of things to do in Yorkshire, comprising of sometimes fabulous museums & art galleries.
One of the best art galleries is the john ruskin gallery in sheffield, which houses a fabulous collection of drawings, manuscripts & books that were owned by the writer john ruskin.
Yorkshire is a huge county, so it is no surprise that it's got great opportunities for shopping. From great markets in tinier towns for instance Harrogate, to large shopping centres in the cities of Leeds & Sheffield, you'll find something for any shopper in yorkshire.
Meadow hall is a popular mall in Sheffield. it was one of the earliest out of town shopping centres in england & has a sizable two hundred and forty outlets.
Yorkshire is a major county with many towns and cities, so it offers truly varied history. Whether you like going out for a cosy drink in a rustic pub or you want to dance all night in a lively night club, you are sure to have a marvellous evening out here.
York is home to some of the oldest pubs in yorkshire, so its a great place to visit for a nice pint of beer. However, the city also has exclusive bars and nightclubs, so it really boasts something for everyone.
