Led Beer Light
Power supply for led's for a beer pong table?
Hey guys. I am building a beer pong table and I want to put some leds in it. What sort of power supply should I use to light them up. I can't find one online that has a place for soldering leds to it. Thanks
LEDs are nonlinear devices and need certain current to operate correctly. it is bad idea to supply voltage or connect the LEDs in parallel because they will not operate cosistently (some will be to bright while others are dim, even if they appear to be same brightness, one is likely to draw considerably higher current etc.)
proper way is to supply constant current. the simplest way is to connect few LEDs and current limiting resistor in series. common LEDs operate in 5-20mA range. 10mA is safe for wide range of products. most LEDs have voltage drop of 2.2-3.5V with average about 2.8V.
For example you have LEDs that operate at 10mA and have 2.8V drop.
If you are using 12V power supply, then you can connect four LEDs in series with resistor of some (12-4*2.8)V/0.01A=0.8V/0.01A=80 Ohm (closest standard value is 82 Ohm).
If you have more LEDs you can connect more such branches in parallel.
This is safest way to play if you don't know much about electronics. To give you taylored solution one need to know how many LEDs, what kind and of course what power source.
Note that you can make two strings of 35 LEDs, then connect those two in antiparallel, then connect one 1k resistor in series.
This will give you 75 LEDs that can be powered by 115VAC. However, there are obvious risks of using AC to power such circuits so if you are not sure what to do, stick with low voltage version and power it with some used laptop power supply for example

To complete your Undercounter system, you need to select and purchase: Design Pro LED Light and/or Design Pro LED Disk Light, optional Dimming Switch or Nightlight, Interconnect Cables, and Power Supply.
