Kills Slow Skull
I just ran over a dog and am traumatised. Please help me?
It happened on a little New England country town and i was going about 60 mph and i saw it run out from the side of the road and i tried to slow down but i basically crushed its skull. I raced out of the car and it was screaming and flailing around on the road and i had no idea what to do and suddenly it just spasmed and then it died. Some people came to help me and they just dragged it to the side of the road and left it there. I have been crying for hours please help i am practically hysterical. I am an animal and dog lover and vegetarian and I just can't get over that i killed an innocent animal when i potentially could have swerved and it died in such a horrible way. Please help, how can i make myself feel better!?

I'm so sorry to hear about what happened to you. I know it's no help to you really, but I just wanted you to know how much empathy I feel for you - I would have been traumatised too. The best thing you can do is be kind to yourself - you didn't do it on purpose, you tried to slow down, you stopped and got out of your car. You did everything you could. Do you have any friends or family members who you can call and talk to? This can help to lighten the load.

This is the poem:
THEY all want to play Hamlet.
They have not exactly seen their fathers killed
Nor their mothers in a frame-up to kill,
Nor an Ophelia dying with a dust gagging the heart,
Not exactly the spinning circles of singing golden spiders, 5
Not exactly this have they got at nor the meaning of flowers—O flowers, flowers slung by a dancing girl—in the saddest play the inkfish, Shakespeare, ever wrote;
Yet they all want to play Hamlet because it is sad like all actors are sad and to stand by an open grave with a joker’s skull in the hand and then to say over slow and say over slow wise, keen, beautiful words masking a heart that’s breaking, breaking,
This is something that calls and calls to their blood.
They are acting when they talk about it and they know it is acting to be particular about it and yet: They all want to play Hamlet.
You will learn nothing if you can't say what the poem means to you, even if you have doubts that the author had that intent.
