Kardon Speakers
Harman/Kardon speakers wont work after system restore, theyre plug & play & dont offer drivers.?
computer is a compaq presario 6000 designed for windows xp (home edition for 2002, service pack 2) AMD Athlon(tm) XP 2000+, 1.67 GHz, 224 MB of RAM
sounds & audio devices properties says no audio device even though theyre plugged in
-this is my work computer, i didnt buy it. it was given to me to get up & running which i why i had to do a system restore to factory settings
no seperate driver disk was given, ive looked online for drivers but am not sure as to what i need
went to HP.com & didnt find an exact match to my PC. mine is a compaq presario 6000 & the closest I saw was 6000T. ive heard its the same sound card but im not sure b/c when i tried to download the drivers, they wouldnt fully install. they gave 3 diffrent drivers & none worked or installed right
Mike C is right, but needed to give you more information.
What you are missing are the Drivers for your sound card, which is a part of your computer and not your speaker system. So as Mike said, contact HP(compaq) and go to support for drivers for your system. They will walk you through the whole process and it is as easy as adding a new program. The drivers won't cost you any money.
I noticed in your specs that your RAM is 224MB. If you want to really speed up your system, add more RAM. Getting a 512 MB stick of DDR 2100 will bring new life to your aging system.

Best Computer Speakers-Who Makes Them?
It is difficult to say who makes the best computer speakers, being that there are many manufacturers to choose from. Harmon Kardon has been around since 1953. Producing some of the finest speakers available. Harmon Kardon manufactures quality, long lasting speakers with crisp, clear audio sound.
The GLA-55 2.0 Powered Loud Speaker is one of Harmon Kardons' newest and finest additions to their luxurious desktop computer speakers. On the other hand, they are not cheap, compared to other laptop computer speakers. As the story goes, "You get what you pay for."
Once I first heard the audio sound of the GLA-55 glass speakers. I was floored. "WOW!"
The Treble sound or high frequency delivers an awesome impact. No matter what type of music that you are into, You wont miss a thing. In fact you will hear other sounds that you may have never heard before. The Mids are also superb. You wont miss a beat. The mids are what bring out the rhythm in music. These speakers bring out the rhythm crisp and clear. Bass is another frequency that plays a very important roll in the sound that comes out of our speakers.
I am going to side track just a bit.
Example: When I am driving and I hear this terrible rumbling sound either behind or in front of me. It sounds as though the bass in the other persons car is going to tear the car apart. I wonder, "how does this person hear any of the music?"
Anyhow, the bass that is pulled out through the Harmon Kardon GLA-55 speakers is fantastic. Turn the music up and hear the treble, mids and bass merry together.Did I mention that they are also very Stylish looking. The clear casing is made out of bullet proof glass. An excellent conversational piece when the friends come over.
