What do i need to know before joining Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc.?
I what like to know what way should i go about asking sorors of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc. about the sorority and advice on what to do with out going too far. I also would like to know what time of the year (fall/spring?) is recommended to participate in membership intake process. Utimatly as i stated before I would like to know what information and materials would i need to prep for MIP?
Dear Interested Applicant,
There are a few things that I must tell you before answering your question. Primarily, ladies of Alpha Kappa Alpha are not your Sorors until you have been initiated into our Sisterhood. I do not want to appear snobbish; however, it is offensive to be addressed as a member of our organization when you are not.
In the future, please refer to ladies of Alpha Kappa Alpha as members and not as Sorors because that would not aid you in becoming a member of our organization (but I honestly think any of the other Sororities would find it offensive as well).
In regards to your questions: Each individual chapter decides the time for their rushes; therefore, you will need to look out for any flyers or posters denoting the time and place. It doesn't matter whether or not you are initiated into the Sorority during the Fall or the Spring if you are selected for
membership.
If you attend the different events that the chapter hosts during the year, the members will know that you are interested. I suggest speaking to them when you see them. Please, don't appear overeager, but don't appear too cool either. I imagine, if you act natural, you'll be just fine!
Are you actively involved in community-oriented activities? If not, I suggest investigating various organizations that give back to community. We (ladies of Alpha Kappa Alpha) strive to be "Supreme in Service to All Mankind." Therefore, please make sure that community service is relevant in your life (not just for Alpha Kappa Alpha, but just to help others).

It would be nice if you would review our website: www.aka1908.org to learn more about the historical aspect of our Sorority and the platform that the President, Barbara MacKenzie, is currently addressing. Other than that, there is no additional information that would be available. If you are selected for membership, all of the information that you will need to know, will be revealed during your initiation.
Again, I did not want to appear snobbish or unfriendly; however, I think you should be aware of the correct protocol when addressing members of an organization in which you desire membership.

Alpha Kappa Alpha $79.66 Alpha Kappa Alpha is the first Greeklettered sorority established and incorporated by African American college women. Why Do Students Like Greek Sweatshirts?
