What is a safe way to heat the pipe from my well pump winter? Paints and gasoline are stored in the same shed.
My well company suggested a ceramic fan heater or an infrared lamp positioned 8 inches from the well pump switch. The heater instructions say not to use where paints and gasoline is stored. The heater is located about 3 feet away and the fan is blowing in the opposite direction from the paint. Will an infrared lamp be any safer?
You can get a heat tape designed to wrap around the pipes. If you need to, you can even put it on a timer. Then wrap this with fiberglas pipe wrap or foam pipe insulation. I think this would be much more energy efficient. But remove the volatiles or you could have the Big Bang, home edition.
