Indy Racing League (Irl) Tickets - Irl Drivers To Watch In 2010
With the 2010 IndyCar Series revved up and ready to go, memories of 2009 come flooding back onto the racetrack as this year's series unfolds. IRL fan favorites like Danica Patrick, Scott Dixon and Dario Franchitti are back in action in 2010 and are already selling Indy Racing League (IRL) tickets to upcoming races, signifying 2010 as a year not to be missed in motorsports. Several storylines are starting to unravel surrounding the first month of the open-wheel racing season, and here are a few of the top drivers to keep an eye on this year.
Dario Franchitti, No. 10, Target Chip Ganassi Racing. After a failed season in NASCAR in 2008, Dario Franchitti came back to the IRL with a vengeance and proved he was no back-of-the-pack driver in '09. Franchitti stole the IndyCar Series championship title from teammate Scott Dixon in 2009, and he begins the 2010 season by surpassing another milestone. At the Honda Grand Prix of St. Petersburg on March 28, Franchitti will have driven in his 200th career IndyCar race, joining only Helio Castroneves and Tony Kanaan as active IRL drivers to have reached the 200 threshold. Franchitti is expected to be a frontrunner in the series again this year, shedding new light on Chip Ganassi Racing as a dominant racing team.
Will Power, No. 12, Team Penske. After the Streets of Sao Paolo, the first race of the 2010 IRL season, Aussie Will Power stands tall as No. 1 on the standings chart. Power begins this season as a full-time driver, coming off a tumultuous year in 2009, which he started in Helio Castroneves' place while Castroneves was in court facing six counts of tax evasion. Power drove so well at the start of '09 he earned Roger Penske's sponsorship during the rest of the year's races, and he even won last year's race at Edmonton, claiming his first IRL victory. 2009 ended on a somber note for the driver, however, as a crash during practice at the Motorola Indy 300 in Sonoma left him with two fractured vertebrae in his back. Power was out for the rest of the '09 season, but this year he returns under Penske's sponsorship and has already become a top driver on the track.
Danica Patrick, No. 7, Andretti Autosport. IndyCar's golden girl is back for another go with the IRL, but this year she's attempting to juggle a partial NASCAR Nationwide schedule along with her open-wheel itinerary. So far neither has gone exceptionally well – especially Patrick's foray into NASCAR – and she opened her IRL season with a 15th place finish at Sao Paolo. Will Danica Patrick's dip into NASCAR help or hurt her open-wheel racing career? That's the main storyline coming out of the racing circuit, and she's got to post some Top-10 finishes in the IRL this year to keep the critics on her side.
Helio Castroneves, No. 3, Team Penske. Brazilian Helio Castroneves had quite the nerve-wracking year in 2009, and we're not just talking on the racetrack. Castroneves spent the first portion of the '09 season in the courtroom instead of on the racetrack, but after he was acquitted of tax evasion charges he came back to his No. 3 car on a mission, winning the Indy 500 just two days after all legal charges against him were dropped. This year, Castroneves is back and is set on capturing the championship title, and he has a legit shot at doing so, starting the season off with a Top 10 finish at Sao Paolo.
