Anyone into hydroponics using an aquarium with fish feces for fertilizer?

I have a 300 gallon aquarium in my greenhouse with trout and perch in it, and hydroponics shelves above it. The shelves are watered by pumping water from the aquarium to the top shelf, and it drains through the shelves back to the aquarium, and the plants in the shelves use the fish waste as fertilizer and this cleans the water. What plants will be good in the shelves to best filter the water?

I wish I knew. That sounds like an amazing setup. If you have any local specialty fish places (not chain ones), it would be a good idea to ask there. They could give you the recommendations and supplies necessary.

Hydroponics

Hydroponics

$49

Plants need nutrients, air, water, and light with a little warmth to survive. Traditionally these have been provided by soil, but hydroponic techniques allow plants not only to survive but also to thrive by gaining the perfect balance of nutrients from a regulated solution. This book looks at the flood and drain method, drip feed, Nutrient Film Technique, aeroponics, and aquaponics. It offers a detailed examination of nutrient content and the strength of solution, advice on how to grow a variety of plants and how to control pests, a simple-to-follow guide to how to arrange and automate a greenhouse, and step-by-step instruction on how to build your own hydroponic systems. Without the need for stooping or weeding, hydroponics is ideal for anyone with back problems or mobility impairment, and superb for children, who can follow and monitor the plants` growth.

Please note that the content of this book primarily consists of articles available from Wikipedia or other free sources online. Passive hydroponics, semihydroponics or passive subirrigation is a method of growing plants without soil, peat moss, or bark. Instead an inert porous medium transports water and fertilizer to the roots by capillary action. Water and fertilizer are held in a reservoir and conducted to the roots as necessary, reducing labor and providing a constant supply of water to the roots. In the simplest method, the pot sits in a shallow solution of fertilizer and water or on a capillary mat saturated with nutrient solution. Since routine maintenance is much simplified, passive hydroponics can reduce the labor required to maintain a large collection of plants. Ever Heard of Hydroponic Banana Trees

While you might be amazed to hear about such a large plant as a hydroponic banana tree being grown on liquid feed alone, it is entirely possible and there are surely people that are growing them. Hydroponics gardening really is not that difficult once you get the hang of the basic requirements and if you are well enough disciplined to attend to your growing plants regularly and consistently.

Hydroponics gardening might seem complicated to a person doing it for the first time, but usually novices are able to quickly get the hang of it. Just like you need gardening supplies for a regular garden, you will need hydroponics gardening supplies for hydroponics gardening. The supplies might not be available in your local supermarket but they can simply be ordered online at keen prices.

The most common method of hydroponics gardening is the passive system. In the passive system, plants will sit directly in the nutrient solution. Because the solution might cause the plants to rot if not oxygenated, all passive systems come with an aquarium air bubbler, which will oxygenate the nutrient solution. If you find the hydroponics gardening method that is right for you, and invest in hydroponic bubblers you will soon be enjoying all the gardening hydroponics vegetables, flowers and fruit that you could possible want.

Hydroponic growing is one of the most efficient and effective ways to grow plants and get more yields from crops. Indoor and soil-free, this marvelously effective and surprisingly inexpensive growing style is made possible by directly providing the roots of the plant with water containing essential nutrients. Believe it or not the rest of the weight of the tree is drawn from the air by the action of photosynthesis in green leaves, and that is no different for a hydroponic plant to a soil grown plant

Hydroponic nutrients, then, are the single most important ingredient of any indoor growing system and they enable the plant to do all the rest. In order to achieve the healthiest hydroponic plants with the best yield, one most have an understanding of these nutrients, their importance to hydroponic growing, and how to use them. There are books you can borrow or buy, which will give you an in-depth understanding, or you can simply follow the instructions given by your supplier.

Nevertheless, here are a few hints about plant nutrition. Both hydroponic and soil-grown plants need 16 elements in order to grow.

The top three elements, are known as macronutrients and include nitrogen, phosphorous, and potassium. Three other elements essential to plant growth, known as secondary nutrients, are calcium, sulfur, and magnesium. The remaining nutrients are called micronutrients. All sixteen of these nutrients are vital to any growing system. In a hydroponic system, the plant receives all these elements through the water.
