What kind of electric guitar is right for me?
Things that might help:
1. i haven't been playing for very long, but i am dedicated
2. my favorite band is led zeppelin and i aim to learn many of their
songs (i already know kashmir 
)
3. i love rock; HENRIX!!, beatles, cream, ac/dc, chuck berry 
and too many more to name
4. i was thinking a gibson les paul or maybe an sg, but im open to all suggestions (except a double neck-that is frickn difficult!)
5. Best (or most helpful) answer gets 10 points, but i am assuming you people already knew that 
Hey thanks everybody! I think it is a good idea to learn to play excellent on a cheap guitar (mine) and then play an amazing guitar and sound amazing! haha so that is what i am doing. So far, i am liking the 3rd answer (very informative) but cheers to you all!
Hey, if you got the money, you can't go wrong with a Les Paul or an SG. If you have more money you can go with a Hamer or a PRS or a Washburn N4. If you have less money then go for the Ibanez JS1000 or the Ibanez RGZ or Roadstar Series.
Also, for the type of music you like (I call it good music), an amp is very important and an effects processor is even more important. Go for a tube amp vs. a solid state amp. The Marshall JCM series is very good and of course very reputable. Other's that you might not know about are Soldano, Matchless.
With the proper effects processor, you can simulate different amp sounds for your guitar. (and different guitar sound, for that matter). I use a DigiTech GNX 3 (current up to date model is the GNX 4). The GNX allows me to choose different amps styles, for example I can play through a Fender Tweed or Bassman, or a 12 x1 Marshall, then I can add the type of distortion I want. The guitar sounds of Hendrix, George Harrison, Eric Clapton, Jimmy Page and Angus Young are all very very different. You'll be able to best replicate that sound by first and foremost buying a good effects processor. (like the GNX). After you get your processor, then I would look for a decent guitar (unless you have a lot money, then look for an amazing guitar) and lastly I would find a decent amp. Remember, Jimmy Page never ever recorded through a 100 watt amp. He recorded through a mysterious, secret 15 watt amp.

The Most Famous Guitars in the History of Rock and Roll - Guitarists
If you like music, then you know about an American guitarist, singer and songwriter named Jimi Hendrix. He was classed as one of best and influenced many a budding guitarists with his music.
Though starting in England it wasn't until the Monterey Festival in 1967 that he was recognized worldwide. He later went on to headline The 1969 Woodstock Festival and with his style of playing using guitar feedback and overdriven amplifiers he turned an undesirable sound into a highly popular type of music.

Another amazing artist is Jimmy Page, from England he is also a composer and record producer.
He started out as a Studio guitarist then joined a band called the Yardbirds, which played from 1966 to 1968. He then founded one of best and most popular English bands called Led Zepplin. In rock history, Jimmy Page is a legend in his own right. as a guitarist and songwriter. Page was also ranked the #9th greatest guitarist of all time.

Though he's tried different styles, the blues are always present in his playing. He has played with Cream, The Yardbirds and blues -rock band John Mavril & the Bluesbreakers.

Another great guitarist, from America, is Joe Satriani. His style of instrumental rock music in a world previously dominated by pop opened the doors for a completely new type of music. AC/DC is an Australian hard rock band and its co-founder Angus Young is an amazing guitarist and songwriter and is ranked in the magazine Rolling Stones list of the 100 Greatest Guitarists Of All Time at 96th. He is known for his schoolboy -uniform outfits and his hard edge style lead guitar playing.

One of the most famous bands of all times is by far The Rolling Stones. One of the co-founders. Keith Richards is a guitarist from England and sings as well as produces music with lead vocalist Mick Jagger. Together they have written and produced many hit songs and Richards is rated number 10 on the Rolling Stones Guitarist list.
