Windows XP won't load properly - out of memory errors, not a genuine copy of windows errors and much more!
I am using a Toshiba laptop with Windows XP. When I try to start it up it is really slow, it gives an error message that it is not a genuine copy of windows and it doesn't ever come up properly - I was just getting errors for SVC and Explorer. I tried running chkdsk/f from safemode, but it didn't run properly (it ran in 5 minutes and didn't fix anything). I put the windows disk that came with the pc in cd and it came up as Win '98 instead of NT, so I popped in an NT disk from my friends Dell laptop (whoops?). I went to the recovery console and ran chkdsk/r from there. It took about 24 hours to run, but when it came back it said that it had found and fixed errors. I typed exit and it restarted and now it is completely screwed up. I get the same errors as before and loads more. Now I am also getting toshiba-specific errors which I assume are caused by running chkdsk from a Dell laptop. I want to save files before I send it off to be fixed (if I need to)-any bright ideas out there?
Buy a legal copy of XP then
Use xp disk as you would to do a normal install at the instalation screen pick repair windows leave file system as it is this will re install windows but leave your files as they are on the computer
all that will not be available are any updates that you installed due to your windows being back to its original install DONOT pick the change file system or your drive will be auto formatted that is a clean install that destoys all on the hard drive you will still need your serial number to re install
