196465 Football League Cup $65.33 Please note that the content of this book primarily consists of articles available from Wikipedia or other free sources online. In association football, a League Cup or Secondary Cup generally signifies a cup competition for which entry is restricted only to teams in a particular league. The first national association football tournament to be called League Cup was held in Scotland in 1946/47 and was entitled the Scottish League Cup. However, in the Republic of Ireland the now defunct League of Ireland Shield was the first national leagueonly tournament of its kind; this was subsequently replaced by the League of Ireland Cup in 1973. The creation of a League Cup marked the difference from the Association Cup or Primary Cup, which is generally also open to teams from multiple leagues, often as far down as regional amateur leagues, and who are also members of the countrys football association. The creation of a tournament of this kind exclusively for the top nationallevel league teams, in addition to the two main domestic association football tournaments of the league and association cup, also created a new national footballing achievement called the domestic treble ; see Treble (association football). South Africa parties before World Cup kickoff
Football World Cup Action- South Africa 2010
"Let the games of the FIFA World Cup South Africa 2010 begin..."
The world is treated to a full month of 'soccer fever' as the games of the football Senior world cup are played this summer. This year's football (soccer) World Cup holds in 10 different stadiums in sunny South-Africa from June 11 until July 11, 2010.
Thirty-two countries are playing to lift the football World Cup trophy this year, thereby becoming new world cup champions after Italy won the last FIFA organized world football cup held in Germany in 2006. Italy itself has qualified to try to defend her cup in South Africa,2010.
Only the hosts, South Africa qualified automatically to the soccer mundial. They are also one of the six African representatives featuring at the South Africa 2010 soccer games.
Also tasting World Cup Soccer action this year from the African continent are:
Nigeria,
Ivory coast (Cote d'Ivoire),
Cameroon,
Algeria
and Ghana.
Five South American Football teams: Brazil, Chile, Paraguay, Argentina, and Uruguay are equally strong contenders for the football world cup FIFA trophy this year..
It is widely assumed that since this is africa's first Football World Cup hosting, an African nation should win this 2010 FIFA Football World Cup in sunny South-Africa this year.
However, other national soccer teams not from Africa would not just play badly just so an African national teas not from Africa will not be playing badly just so an African team gets the cup.
They are certainly promising to come out as good as they did at other tournaments.
Not the least of which are the football teams from Europe that are also around for FIFA football 2010 World cup in South Africa. England, Italy, Germany, Netherlands, France, and especially Spain (European champions), are attending the Soccer World Cup action with their toughest, formidable contingents.
Other countries partaking in this soccer mundial such as U.S.A., Mexico, the two Koreas, Japan, New Zealand, etc have equally signified their intentions to lift the prestigious FIFA footballing trophy in South Africa in 2010.
We never know, but a team may appear from obscurity and surprise everyone to lift this year 2010's FIFA football World Cup Trophy. This has happened more than once before where the top favorites at an event 'flopped' and relative unknowns, or 'wildcards', eventually won the
cups or trophies.
Goran Ivanisevic did so in 2001. Kim Clijsters in 2009, both in tennis. Denmark football team did so in 1992. Greece in 2004-both winning the Euro Cup as either 'wildcard', or rank outsiders. Just watch out. You'll say I said it before.
More Players to watch at this 2010 football world Cup: Didier Drogba, Frank Ribery, Frank Lampard, Jae Sun Park, Kanu Nwankwo, Lionel Messi, Kaka, Fernando Torres, Ashley Cole, Kolo Toure, John Terry, Wesley Schneider, Bastian Schweinstiger, Giovanni dos Santos (of Mexico, in pic) etc.
