Will flowers grow differently under different light colors?
If I grew a flower in a dark room using a red light bulb, will it grow differently from a flower which was given light using a green light bulb?
Colour therapy is widely research on both humans and plants at a point of time.
It seems that plants which grow under red light are in poorer conditions compared to green or blue or yellow lighting conditions. Fruits grow under red light taste more bitter than those from other colored lights.
Maybe you would like to try it for a experiment. Put a blue-colored bottle and a red-colored bottle under direct sunlight for 20-30mins. Afterthat, taste the difference of the water from the two bottles. You may find the water in the blue-colored bottle sweet compared to the red one.
All the best! (& one more thing, research have shown most people tend to sleep better in a blue-colored bedroom than a red one..)

Well I can answer #2 and #3 for you...
#2 I believe that the persona that Blanche has set up for herself in her mind is about to die. Blanche considers herself a delicate southern flower but the bloom (her youth) is starting to fade (die). Mexicans also celebrate La Dia del Muertas (The Day of the Dead) and one of the ways to commerate that holiday is with flowers.
#3 Blanche sets up the paper laterns to create a romantic ambiance and an air of seduction in the room for Mitch, both which are in line with her character or at least the persona she is trying to project. She also uses specific lighting to conceal the fact that she is older than she lets on. When Mitch becomes angered with Blanche when he finds out what she used to do (i.e. prostitute), he rips down the paper latern as a symbol that he is exposing her true self.
