Flat Cut
How to u hide component cables on the wall under a flat screen tv without having to cut into the wall?
Running them through the wall is best. I'm going to take a guess that you're renting, so you're afraid to do this because of your security deposit. If so, good news - you don't have to be afraid about that.
I'll tell you how to do it. It's very easy - don't be intimidated by my detailed instructions - they make it look harder than it is because I'm trying to be very, very detailed so that everything is clear. Be sure to read the whole procedure before getting started. Make sure you understand it all before you cut anything.
You need 2 holes - one behind your TV, and one near the floor. (Measure an electrical outlet in the room to see how high off the floor - your lower hole should match that.)
The upper hole will be a square. 2" by 2" should do (unless you have more than 2 or 3 cables to run; make it 3" by 3" if you do.) This small size will make it really easy to patch later.
The lower hole will be the exact size of a single gang cut-in outlet box. (That's the box in the wall that an electrical outlet mounts into.) Now, here's the procedure...
1. Take the TV off the wall and mark a 2" by 2" square (or 3" by 3" if you're running several cables) behind it. Place this square as near as possible to the input panel on the back of the TV, but avoid the wall studs. (If you wall mounted it, you should already know where the studs are.)
2. Put a screw into the middle of the hole and tie a string to it. The string should be long enough to go from the top hole to the bottom hole and back again, plus 2 or 3 feet. Tie the other end of the string to something light but too large to fit through the hole (an old CD works well) and let it dangle. (We do this because we don't want the small square of drywall to fall into the hole.)
3. Use a drywall saw to cut the hole along the lines you marked. When you're done, set the small square of drywall aside. (If it crumbled and isn't usable, it's not really a big deal, but find the biggest chunk and save it. Later on you'll take it to Home Depot to get a quart of color matched paint. You'll need this when you move out!)
4. Tie a weight (small enough to fit through the hole) to a piece of string that's about 6 inches longer than the distance from the hole to the floor. If you're a fisherman, a lead sinker works well for this.
5. Tie the other end of this string to the CD (or whatever) you used in step 2.
6. Put the weight through the hole and slowly lower it down. All but a few inches of the string should go in before the weight hits bottom. If this is NOT the case, you've hit what's called a "fire break" - a short piece of framing put horizontally between the studs. If so, this isn't going to work, so you're done. Use someone else's answer for this question and go to step 16 to patch the hole.
But if the weight went all the down, proceed,,,
7. Cut a hole for the outlet box. It should be DIRECTLY BELOW (i.e. vertically aligned with) the top hole, and at the proper height from the floor relative to the other electrical outlets in the room (as mentioned above.)
8. Before installing the box, cut off the back top corner of the box using a hacksaw. When you're done, you should have a nice big hole in the top/back of the box. Make sure all of your cables will fit through easily; if not, cut the hole bigger.
9. Take the string from step 2 (untie it from the screw and the CD/whatever) and tie the weight from step 4 to one end. Drop it through the top hole, then tie the two ends of the string together, leaving loose ends that are about 6" long. You should now have a big loop of string that runs through your wall.
10. Run tie one end of the power cord (the one that plugs into the back of your TV) to the loop using the 6" loose ends down by the floor. At the top hole, pull on the loop of string so that the power cord gets pulled into the wall. When it gets to the top, untie it from the string loop and make a loop (a loose knot) in the end of the cord. Pull on the loop of string some more so that the loose ends are down by the floor again.
11. Repeat step 10 for all additional cables.
12. Run all the cables through the hole in the top/back of the outlet box, then install the box
13. Rehang the TV and plug all the cables in. (You may have to plug the cables in first depending on how much clearance you have.)
14. Run the cables through a standard, 2-hole outlet plate ( http://www.hardwarestore.com/media/product/102982_front200.jpg ) and attach the plate. (If the two holes aren't big enough, use a Decora plate ( https://www.addison-electronique.com/catalog/images/022005.jpg )
For a really professional look, you could also use something like this http://is.gd/3RDV or this http://is.gd/3REo - but you'd need to pop out the center section and put a notch in it somewhere (a notch just big enough) for the power cord. Pass the power cord through the outer portion, then snap the center section back in place.
That's it. You're done. (At least until you move out.) When that time comes...
15. Pull all your cables out and install an outlet into the outlet box. (No wires, so it won't work, but the landlord can fix that later if necessary 
Or, if you want to be nice to the landlord, you could install a blank (no holes) wall plate or one with a single small hole (for a cable TV cable). That way, the next tenant won't try to plug something in to that outlet and complain because it doesn't work.

17. If the wall is textured, match the texture by dabbing on little bits of spackle, then smearing them (leaving a thin layer) with a putty knife to create matching texture.
18. Finish it off (after the spackle dries!) with that color-matched paint you bought back in step 3.
