Home Security System Signs and How Well They Work

When you walk by a house that has a sign staked in the front yard that advertises a home security system, you know that they are protected from break ins. Or are they? Sometimes people simply buy a yard sign to pretend that they have a home security system without having to pay the price for actually installing one, but does this really work? Think of it this way: if you were a burglar, wouldn't you move on to an easier target rather than challenging the validity of the sign?
The same goes for a "Beware of Dog" sign. Although everyone knows that sometimes people put up these signs in regards to their Chihuahua or an imaginary dog, it's probably enough to deter you from finding out the hard way whether there really is a dog or not. If you really don't have enough in your budget to afford a home security system yet, a yard sign can be a cost effective alternative as long as you place it in the right position.
It's a good idea to buy multiple signs so that they are visible from all points of your house, deterring a criminal before they get too close. You want to first make sure that your supposed home security system is advertised from afar by placing some in your flower beds as well as near the curb next to your driveway. You also should have a sign or window decal on all exterior doors, as well as the garage door. If you're concerned about the appearance of your property, keep the amount of signs to a minimum without obscuring the signs or neglecting any areas of weakness. You know your property best, so use your best judgment on what you think will be effective.
To add to the effect of your yard signs and decals without breaking the bank, you can also purchase other low cost security devices such as dummy security cameras and dummy alarm bell boxes. If the signs weren't enough to make an intruder think twice before breaking in, surely seeing what they believe to be a security camera and the evidence of a home alarm system. It's likely that with proper advertisement, they won't even both getting close enough to see all of this.
Of course, the most secure method would be to have a real home security system. While any random burglar who happens to be prowling the neighborhood would not be the wiser whether you have a real home security system or not, you never know who a potential intruder might be. It could be an acquaintance, a neighbor or anyone who has heard through the grapevine that you don't in fact have a home security system. For this reason, it's important that you never tell anyone the truth behind your yard signs. Also, if you want to clear you mind of any doubts you have regarding home security, install a real system and put these worries to bed.
