How do I get my milk supply up if I am Exclusively Pumping?
I am exclusively pumping since my daughter was born 2 months ago. I use a manual breast pump and do so every 2 to 3 hours for 15 mins per side. I am only getting about 1.5 - 2 oz per side for 15 min pumping. Should I use a double electric pump?? any tips???
Fenugreek and Blessed Thistle Capsules increase milk supply. (Fenugreek has been used for dairy cows to make them produce more milk). They work BEST when used TOGETHER. Take 3 capsules of Fenugreek and 3 capsules of Blessed Thistle 3 times a day. That is 18 capsules- a lot, I know. But within 24-72 hours you will notice a difference. Your clothes and sweat will smell a bit like curry and that will let you know you are taking enough (most people don't take enough and that is why it does not work). Stop after about 3 days. I have done this several times when my supply drops and it works every single time. The capsules are more concentrated and easier to take than the teas. Also, a double electric pump will increase supply. Use the Ameda Pump in Style. It has listed me through multiple children, is a breeze to clean, and the lactation consultant at my hospital recommended it. In addition, it is a very hygienic pump- it is a closed system so milk does not come in contact with the air or a pump (unlike the very popular Medela). Even though you will spend about $200 it is a lot less than what you will spend on formula. Lastly, you can do a power-pumping session. Pump 15 minutes, rest 15 minutes, then pump again for 15 minutes. After the milk is done coming our, continue to pump for a few minutes, this lets your body know that more milk is needed. Lastly, while you are pumping, make sure that you use breast compression (it's basically squeezing) to get more milk out. Breast compression increases the amount of milk, as well as the percentage of fat in it. All these done together will make a huge difference in your supply. Amazon and other online retailers sell all these things at a discount. I would strongly recommend getting a double electric pump, it is worth the money. Lastly, as much as you can (I know it is tough as a new mom) try and get as much rest as you can. Drink water regularly, you don't need to flood yourself but make sure you aren't thirsty. Eat natural food that are higher in fat. Exclusive pumping is not easy but as we all know breastmilk is the best for your child- kudos to you for keeping it up! All the best to you
