Do women discount friendship in a relationship?
I have noticed that many women do not like their lovers to be friends; rather, they seem to prefer someone who will be dominant and controlling.
I could be wrong, but I see a pattern. Any truth to this? Is equality something that people say that they want in a relationship, but don't?
It actually depends on the type of girl. Most of the girl that I know, not all, does not prefer someone who will be dominant or controlling, but instead someone who can protect them. There is a difference between dominant and controlling and the feeling a person cast off as protective, and defending. Sometimes, some girls may think that when a guy is being dominant and controlling, he gives her the feeling that he is masculine and protective enough to be there to support and defend her when she needs it. It's the feeling of security when a person is being dominated and controlled by another that some girls looks for. The world is too big, harsh, and cruel for a sweet and cute girl, and so they need the feeling of security and protection.
BUT that's is not always the case, because when a guy is being dominant or controlling, it gets really annoying and sometimes I would like to punch the freaken guy in the face for not being considerate enough of the fact that I too am human and has my own belief and opinion. It's nice though, when I am undecisive, and the guy make a choice for me...but he should still be considerate of the fact that I too have the right to make a choice. I certainly DO NOT want a guy who is dominant and controlling. I had been in one relationship with this guy, who was really considerate and sweet in the beginning, but eventually becomes controlling. It got on my nerves so much that we argued nearly every day and ends up breaking up on a very bad note. Let's say that I'll stay away from those relationships from now on.
My friends told me that in a relationship, it's not the feeling of being dominated or controlled that they look for, but it's the feeling that the guy care and try to understand what the girl wants. If a guy is weak and can't even stand up for himself, that's a no-no. Because the guy needs to at least provide the idea that they will at least still be there to protect the girl when the girl needs it (hopefully, the guy won't run away if a stranger tries to rob and rape the girl...).
I don't understand what you mean that they don't want their lovers to be their friends. I don't think I want any of my guy friends to be my lovers, just because they are like brothers to me. But I do want the relationship between me and my guy to be a comfortable one...where I can tell him anything and I know that he'll listen and understand, and vise versa. I would hate it if the guy is the only person who makes the decision in the relationship (because then I wouldn't feel as though I'm a person) and if the guy wouldn't be there for me when I need a comforting shoulder (because if he can't at least do that then screw that idiot).
But then again, it depends on the girl.
