Dept Helmet
When it comes to helmets whats the difference between DOT and SNELL
I know DOT means it meets Dept. of Transportation standards, but what is SNELL? Also, if the State requires a DOT helmet and I have one that's only SNELL, is that good enough?
SNELL is a independent Testing entity not affiliated with the Gov. Their standards are somewhat tougher and some DOT Helmets don't pass SNELL Standards. This doesn't mean they won't protect You in a crash. DOT is all that is Required in all Mandatory Helmet States. Some Race tracks require SNELL helmets for track day use.
