Custom Hanging
One should never hang out laundry between Christmas and the New Year ... does anyone know about this custom?
My grandfather told me on Christmas that it brings bad luck for the coming year if one does. Or it could also be "take in your laundry before the New year starts". I've never heard about this custom before ... Do you know a similar custom and/or how it came about?
All laundry must be washed by New Year's Eve, so no evil spirits can enter the new year.
We eat herring for New Years' Eve (don't know why, but I love it)
We set off fireworks at midnight to keep evil spirits out of the new year.
My mother held to these customs religiously. I had to hang out laundry every New Year's Eve, whether it rained our snowed or froze the sheets to boards.
That is the closest I could come aside from the fact that between Christmas and New Years is the cold spell and it would freeze on the line. But I have to wonder about those places in the warmer regions of the world. We hung our laundry out to dry today in Arizona.

Start Your Own Quilting Business: Wall Hangings
If you love applique quilting, why not start your quilting business by targeting the niche market of quilted wall hangings?
Your quilted wall hanging business could be run several ways. You could concentrate on children's appliqu?all hangings (which might even be used as baby quilts if sized right). The various forms of Sunbonnet Sue and Overall Sam patterns are obvious traditional favorites.
If you feel comfortable creating your own appliqu?esigns, you can truly create a unique wall hanging business. Children's coloring books or simple clip art designs are a great place to start for applique design inspiration. Virtually anything can become an appliqu?esign for your quilted wall hangings!
Following the same appliqu?esign approach above, you could build your quilted wall hanging business to target home d?r for adults.
